Moments spent with friends are priceless and turn into treasured memories. But best of all is the moment when you discover someone who shares your interests and likes. Best of all is that moment when you look into those eyes and realize that this could be that friend who should have been in your life long back, but has just made it there. You feel your heart flutter a little as the words flow. You feel your eyes stray towards your new friend to make sure he actually is there. The pleasure of hearing his voice and knowing that the words formed in your heart before they were uttered by him. That feeling when you find that you share your love for the very same things, and the curiosity to know what more you have in common. Words cannot do justice to that sudden burst of happiness!
I had the good fortune of meeting my "new friend" yesterday! It was one of the happiest nights of my life in recent times. A sudden visit from my long time friend brought a new person into my life. He was silent and seemed shy. But that did not stop me from trying to find out more about him. With a little nudging he revealed that he was into blogging. Did I just hear him say that he was into writing blogs?! This was enough to wake me up. I tried a lot to get him to show me his blog. But he flatly refused, smiling his bright smile all the time. I managed to read a sample entry of his, and was touched by what I read.
This got us talking, and we spent the remainder of the night talking. We spoke of books and articles, hikes and drives, mysteries and haunted houses, Sherlock Holmes and Harry Potter, places visited and yet to be visited, and his family and mine. I had found a friend. In his words, I had found someone whose wavelength matched mine. I fell in love with his slang and more so with his patience. Just like he said, it was me who spoke for almost 98 percent of the night. But the fact that he listened to me for 98 percent of the night is what set my rusty mind back to work. The time that he spent sharing his thoughts with me is what jerked me back to my senses, and reminded me of my long lost passion - writing. His habit of writing down his experiences made me pick my pen up as well.
I would have loved to have him stay by my side. But, I did see him off to his home; Me, with a very heavy heart, and him, with his smile bright as ever. He will remain ever oblivious to the changes he brought about in me. This goes to show that even a simple deed could make a vast difference in someone's life. Dear friend, I shall be indebted to you for life for bringing me back to my books and my writing!
